Another busy week in Cygnet

Sunday and its Market day today.
The day starts sunny and clear but as the market stallholders set up black clouds loom overhead...

We took a walk up to Red Velvet to get his morning coffee...then did a quick scout of the halls to see if there are any book bargains to be found.
I head back to the shop and open for the day.
Later I go out to get my veges from Alex...and a yummy fruit bread too.

Thomas manages to spend his allowance before 10am!!..there is always some so of present bought for me (the darling boy). This week a swan and cygnet card.
John finds some books of interest.
We have a nice morning...John and Tom set some Quince for one of our medicines.
I spend the morning finishing last week's blog.
There are quite a number of people about this week despite the rain begining to fall. We don't have too many customers...but some of the locals are in and browse and enjoy a chat with eachother while their children play quietly.
After we close up we take a drive over to Snug. John wants to pick up some more plants from the nursery there. Tom and i have a walk along the beach while we wait for John to get back from the nursery...then we walk about in the bush on the headland. Tom has a terrific time climbing up and down the banks and rock faces..

We return to the car via a shoreline walk...a really pleasant afternoon despite the threatening clouds.
As we drive back over the hill to Cygnet the rain becomes steady.
We walk up to Red Velvet for a cosy sit and afternoon tea.
Then home to prepare things a for school tomorrow.
I plant a fushia I bought at market today..
Tom and I work in the kitchen preparing the veges to roast. Tom makes an Apple Crumble and I bake an Orange poppyseed cake for school lunch box.
The rain drizzles down and we get the fire going, draw he curtains and have a cosy night with Harry.

Monday and its grey and cool today. The misty clouds drape over the hills out the back.
Tom is happy to be heading back to school after the Easter break.
John and I get busy with a couple of big orders that take most of the morning to prepare.
We get the fire going in the shop to take the chill out of the air.. Pretty quiet front of shop...
I go across the road to Lisa for a haircut at 3pm...
Tom has had a great day at school...but his very wobbly tooth is giving him grief...poor darling. He struggled to eat his lunch today...leaving behind  the rice crackers as they were just too hard to bite..
Tom is very happy to go off to scouts...John and I walk him down and he whizzes off on his scooter the minute we cross the road to Burton's Reserve. Its quite nippy out...and we wonder what it will be like come June/July!! The overcoats will come out then.
Dinner is a traumatic affair due to that tooth...even pasta is tricky and brings on tears...
(I so remember that sensation and really feel for Tom)
Eventually, after dinner and between gulps of cold milk, Thomas wiggles it out...Yay!! Well done.
The boys do Harry while I have a lovely long chat with Sandra..Great to hear all the Penno News..

Tuesday and its a grey one again. Pleasant out though.

Usual morning chores then I go across with Tom to have a quick word with Mrs Brain (one of Tom's teachers). I got a garbled message from Tom about maybe being needed to help on Marine Discovery excursion to Woodbridge on Thurs...yes they could use another mum helper...that will be fun.
John and I get on with a few orders...pretty quiet so I decide to begin doing an inventory of our medicines to update our list for Therapists. John has added to the range since last time I did it in March 2011....not least of which is our Whitetail Spider bite medicine...Lamona cylindrata..
It takes all afternoon, but I finish the job which is great.
Lovely late afternoon view with the Autumn coloured Poplars.

Tom enjoys an afternoon read ..

Tom's new friend flies in for dinner

We have an early dinner as I am going to my first School Board meeting ...as an observer.
It is a long meeting going from 6.30 to about 9.30pm...but interesting and even though I don't know alot of the school history or anyone on the Board, I think it will be really good to be part of it. One of the mum's from Tom's class..Pauline...was also there to observe. She is just lovely and I look forward to working with her. Our nomination has to go to the Bishop for approval before we can be elected to the Board at the AGM next month.

Wednesday and its a very foggy morning.

The black swans are returning to our back paddock to feed

Kitchen garden day and also School Photo day.
The class is late turning up so we get started preparing the food or we will run out of time. Pauline is there to help again so its nice to followup with her a bit about the Board meeting. Melissa, Lachie's mum is also there and she is really nice too. (Its so good to begin to connect a little with people).
Roy's sets us an ambitious task again... Pasta with zucchini/mushroom, salad with egg, Jerusalem artichoke and potato bake and Anzac biscuits... All is completed...but the bake is not quite cooked enough to serve up in time. The class enjoy the pasta, poke at the salad and gobble the Anzacs...even the burnt ones!! After class has gone and we've finished doing the dishes, we have some of the bake...its delicious!!

Back at the shop there are orders to do and the afternoon passes fairly quickly.
I have afternoon tea at Red Velvet with the women from St James...a fair bit of "shop" talk about school issues but I don't mind..just nice to hear the banter.
John , Tom and I do a drive out to Garden Island Creek to look for a plant (Polygomatum multiflora) we saw there a few months ago...Melbourne Therapy Centre have asked John to make a cream with this ingredient. We locate it and dig a  few good clumps of root..as the Rhizome is what is processed. John and Tom get to work and set it on when we get home while I make dinner. John also plants some of the roots in our back garden to propagate more for later use.

Thursday and its a lovely day predicted...24 degrees no less
I join Tom's class on an excursion to Woodbridge Marine Discovery Centre.Sharon Ireland drives the mini-bus and 3 other mums plus Kim Helm (teacher Th-Fri) all pile in with the class...its only about 20 minutes over the hill.
We have a fantastic day run by Andrew Walsh a great teacher over there. There are many and varied things for the class to see and do and he keeps things rolling all day. Even the naughty kids are captivated by something...I was really impressed. Its also a great opportunity for me to get to know Tom's class better...I almost have everyone figured out now..Was even able to pull a few of them up,by name, when they were mucking up.

The final activity was to pat a shark!!

Thomas' interim report came home today..very pleasing. He is doing well and the teacher's comments are lovely.
Did a few orders when I got back to work at 3. John did the post run and grabbed a coffee..
Was a beautiful mild afternoon...

Tom had a hankering to do some baking..so I he set about cooking some Apricot Anzac biscuits..he did well doing it all bar putting the trays in the oven...Its great he loves to cook.
I seriously considered going to Zumba tonight as Rob at the Post Office said he and Lisa go...and I should too...piked out at the last minute...Instead I peeked out our windows every now and then just to get a glimpse of what they do... I reckon I could probably give it a go...maybe next week...had a Harry session instead with the boys....

Friday and its wet and grey...

We have a few orders and customers through the day to keep us busy. John prepares the Bolus Alba Powder and we put it by the fire to dry out a bit.
I spent a fair amount of time on creating labels for this new product.

He also makes a fresh batch of Viscum Eucalypti cream (with the mistletoe we harvested )

The black swans are again in the back paddock during the morning.

There are alot of people about town today...feels really busy..with cars coming and going.
We finish packing and labelling the new powder...looks good

Its late so we have a Devour burger for dinner and snuggle down.

Saturday and its grey and cool.
John drops Tom to sailing for the morning. I get on with some sewing and John comes back and gets coffee and the Sat paper and settles down for a quiet read.

We head down to the Sailing club a bit after 11 to watch Tom come in.

After washing down and packing up his boat we go home...Tom has a shower, we eat lunch then drive over to Geeveston to the Medieval Fair...
Tom enjoys the archery..its a very entertaining afternoon.

Home again and as I go up to the Laudromat to dry some washing a Wedding Party is having photos outside St James...lovely

John has a snooze while I prepare dinner and Tom reads..
Another cosy night at home....
