John proudly shows me the gates he has erected while we were away..
They look terrific
Thomas will be moving up to scouts in the next month...very exciting.
So he is currently attending Cubs on Mondays from 5-6.30pm as well as Scouts on Thursdays from 7-9pm.
The scouts will be going on a snow camp (in huts!) to Mt Field in August...so we thought it time to invest in a good sleeping bag for Tom. He takes to it like a caterpillar to a cocoon.!!
Tom arrives home from work one night with a beautiful bunch of sunshiny jonquils for me...what a treasure that boy is..
Hannah and Mark visit on Wednesday night for a couple of hours.. Lovely to see them and have acatch-up..unfortunately they can'y stay for dinner as they have plans...maybe next time.
Hannah starts her prac in Hobart next week..so it might be awhile.
The mornings are delightfully cold and and when the sun shines brightly in the middle of the day..winter doesn't seem so bad..
We have a lovely morning for Garden...so sunny. We weed and re-plant leeks.
We really enjoy eachother's company over a delicious shared lunch.
Saturday night is Cygnet on a Plate.. Anne, our School Principal drops off our tickets and mentions I might like to attend the Assembly tomorrow..as Tom is getting a special award
Thomas is keen to go over to the hall after school to help with the decorating for Saturday night.
On Friday I go over to the Assembly in the new Gymnasium..
As part of the St James feast day celebrations, a Year 5 and Year 9 student are awarded the principal's award for emulating all the good qualities the school promotes..
Thomas was the Year 5 student...and they gave out 2 x Year 9 awards as they couldn't choose between the two.
Have had a word to Tom about how one should stand when out the front of the school and accepting an award... (embarrassed or not ..could do a little better than this ) Pity he took his jumper off just before award...so the daggy thermal hanging out the sleeve look is what we get..I know...picky mother speaking.. (But she is very ,very proud of her boy)
Lighting the birthday cakes...a special honour..with the whole school watching..
So proud of his award...also has one term's fees covered by the school...nice going son..
Tom re-discovers susi's hat and can just squeeze it on..such a gorgeous sight..
He used to wear it alot when younger.
Sphagni Harvest June 2010 Barrington Tops
Saturday morning we head up on the hill to mark out cubby site and start preparing ground to make form work for concrete pour when the house site is done... Still some way off...but hand digging is slow work.
The morning mist is stunningly beautiful...and I can't help taking lots of photos.
Our tanks in place on the hill top.
Arc of mist appears..
The mist slowly clears..
I drop Tom back to town as he is volunteering to help chefs prepare for Cygnet on a Plate. Apparently he peels many potatoes! A good skill to have
Then back on the hill...it is so warm and sunny...no wind today.
I have to strip to thermal singlet..too hot..whoa..one layer...pretty amazingPlanting willows cuttings in boggy ground at bottom of the hill..
Such a beautiful afternoon..I decide to walk home from here...fabulous...Post Cygnet at it's best
Matthew Evans has his Fat Pig Farm caravan set up for Cygnet on a Plate tonight
We rug up and are ready to head over at 6.30pm..
John and Tom case the joint...
Great atmosphere ...but the food isn't quite what we'd hoped.
Delicious pork buns and Hot Toddy outside , served by Matthew...
Then cured meats...Possum stew, Wallaby, Pigs Head terrine...feral cat?
Rye bread , mushroom pate and cheese
Our table.. sat with School Board members and a couple of ring-ins.
Pork sausage....
We did sponsor the event...and got our logo up but no name ..
The Huon Valley Concert Band played...they were good...but too loud to talk over comfortably.
We enjoyed the night...but I came home quite hoarse..
Sunday and Tom has a scouts Tree Planting day at Burton's Reserve..so he wanders down at the appropriate time...Big boy about town that he is now..Mr. Independence.
John and I go up on the hill and have a go at some serious fencing.
John has done the research, talking to the guys at Roberts ...and has the right gear and it goes like a dream..well done John!!
There is plenty more to do..but we have made a start of this stage, which is great.
I head home when Tom gives me a call to say he is finished at Burtons.
He has been on sausage cooking duty...another new skill he has acquired today.
When he goes to work..I get on with ironing. Not a bad spot to do it eh? What a view.
I have to sneak in some Ben photos...just because...
