House and 'Tom's Lair' progress

The weeks pass quickly...and I am again behind in my blog news..
The boys have worked hard to make up the trusses for the"Lair"...very impressive

The house is also coming along with Hebel cladding going up..and eaves begun

The eaves ...the Carport for "the good car" as John describes his Subi

Solid washing line framework on Eastern Wall

I walk home from the hill and enjoy the views..

The is the Tas Fruit Processing building that has been derelict for years.
Paul and Rosemary and some friends ...have bought it with a vision to turn it into an amazing complex of businesses/ tourist attraction/ restaurant/cafe..
A very ,very exciting project for Cygnet.
They will make it work I am certain..

Back up to the hill  later to see the trusses in situ... incredible construction work boys!!

I have been doing some construction of my own..

Red Velvet is slowly being repaired and given a fresh face.
Steve hopes they will be up and running by July

Thursday at garden we weed and harvest Tomatoes..
I do the rounds just before lunch to take some photos of the gorgeous leaves ...

 Just love this ...

Jo puts together a beautiful salad from the garden to accompany the other offerings brought today
 Some of the Tomato harvest..

When I get back to work..I see the cream tubes have been delivered.
That should keep us going for awhile.

Thurs arvo John and I race up to have a look at the house..
Stunning sky..
 More eaves in place.

John inspects the trombe wall in the Library...
Designed to collect the heat from the northern sun...and warm the room without the damaging sunlight...curious eh?
Loki our bricklayer extaordinaire thinks we are a bit mad!!
Paul our architect /builder assures us it will be fantastic..

Friday a toy order arrives so somehow they make their way to Tom's room to greet him when he gets home from school.
 Very impressed he is too...

Our big weekend begins...
Thomas is taking part in the Scout's overnight vigil at the cenotaph.
They will camp up behind the cenotaph and take turns throughout the night to stand guard.
When we walk him up there at 7pm there are a couple of Joeys taking their turn.

5am Saturday..John and I walk up to see  the cenotaph.

John will attend the Dawn Service that is run by the Scout group.. (Thomas reads a couple of reflective passages and the final prayer...John says he does well)
I have opted to volunteer to help prepare breakfast at the scout hall from 5.30am..
(My thoughts are with Ma and I have been heavy hearted over the past few days as we approach her anniversary today...I thought I would follow her example and get busy, helping where I was needed , from early in the day to ease the sadness.)
Once we have breaky ready and the Dawn Service crowds arrive, I position myself at the washing up sink and find the work of washing 100 or more dishes very soothing... Takes me back to the dinner parties Ma would have and I always enjoyed washing the dishes for her..John arrives and gives a hand drying up...really lovely to work together for this wonderful Scout group.

I walk home when all is done, while John stays behind to hear the guest speaker who is taking to the scouts..
I find myself overwhelmed with sadness and weep as I walk home thinking of Ma.
So I decide to get out her tea set and have breakfast with her. A comfort..

After breakie...I continue with my mad last minute scheme to sew up some Bunting for our big book launch tomorrow...
A typical crazy Ma-like moment..and I smile to myself as the tears fall..and  keep sewing..
John heads to Kingston in the hope the Hardware is open there today..

At 10.30 I go out to watch the scouts march up the street. Such a great sight..

The traditional Port Cygnet Scout Troop photo is taken

Smokey gives the flag bearers last minute instructions

 while the Scouts amuse themselves..
Sherri..out postie looks so wonderful in her Navy uniform..
Served 10 years...seeing active service in the Persian Gulf..
 Taking up position...
 Here they come..

A moving service...freezing cold as usual...

Later Tom catches up on some sleep
We see out the day watching Pirates of the Caribbean Part 3...to Tom's utter delight!!

Sunday will be a busy one again.
John is off to a Weed Management Workshop for the morning.
Run by Natural Resources Management South...at our friends Gilly and Kris' property below our place.
Tom and I get busy setting up for Posie Graeme-Evans book launch.
Tom gets the wood in...It is a cold day today...Top of 13°C so a fire is called for..

I get the signs up and Tom gives me a hand with the Bunting..Looks great...worth the effort of making it...

I ask Tom to be official photographer ...so here are his shots..

What a delightful surprise...Narns and Jark arrive at 1pm...to lend a hand with the 'hosting'
A very very welcome pair...taking the load off me for the afternoon..
Posie and Andrew arrive...Posie is so nervous and anxious ..
I take her out the back so she can collect her thoughts..
The guests arrive and Narns and Jark see to it that everyone has a drink..
(our lovely friend Winsor Dobbin has donated wine..and Andrew and Posie bring some sparkly too)

 A lovely atmosphere.
A cosy place to be on a cold afternoon..
Posie is thrilled to see all who have come..
I do the welcome , thankyous and introduce the lovely Posie

A very successful social afternoon in Cygnet...and we sell a few books too..

When the guests have all left..we race up to the hill to have a quick walk through the house so Narns and Jark can see the progress. Very chilly up there. Then they head home

We enjoy a very quiet night and make our way to bed nice and early...
Exhausting weekend..
