We begin our exploration

Fantastic day had at Recherche Bay..travelling through Franklin, Port Houn, Geeveston, Dover, Southport, Ida Bay and lots of other smaller communities along the road south. Very interesting expecially as we had low mist over the Huon River alot of the way..but gradually the mist lifted to a stunning day.It took about two and a half hours to get to the start of our walk but we did meander our way down.

We set out walking about 9.40 . The track took us through an amazing range of vegetation and terrains...the track itself varying from squelchy mud/rocks/tree roots to board walks. We had fantastic views across to snowcapped Adamsons Peak...just spectacular.

Breakfast before we set out

The round trip was about 10km. Sweet sounding bird calls, the breeze singing through the grass, frogs, the finally the distant sound of waves crashing accompanied the warmth of the sun and occasional chill wind as we plodded  our way along the changing track. We definitely felt our poor fitness levels on the trek back...still ...we made it , and are very pleased we did it..

Its been a mixed week weatherwise...sun/ rain/cloud/wind
The locals tell us that Spring is not really here until after Hobart Show Day which is 20th Oct.
That being said, Monday and Wednesday were beautiful warm days around 20 degrees... (Its amazing how quickly you acclimatise and find 20 degrees warm!!)
Signs of Spring in Mary St
Tom really enjoyed Cub Scouts this week. They went on a sort of treasure hunt looking for clues around the town...going to the Fire station and the small Anglican church up behind the school..then finished off the night by making Sherbert to eat!! Such fun.
I joined Tom's class on Tuesday afternoon for craft. We were doing paper mache..a messy activity but great to see the other children in his Year1/2 class and some of the other Mums too. Lots of fun..
St James is having a school Fair in a couple of weeks and we are going to make playdough to sell. The support teacher running the craft activities is Sharon Ireland (former owner of our land at Wattle Grove) She is a delightful, dynamic pesonality with lots of enthusiasm and inspirational ideas that she has implemented in the school...thank heavens...as Tom's teacher seems fairly limited in her capabilities compared to what we were used to in Sydney. Tom is enjoying himself., which at this stage is a real plus.

A game before school

We have enjoyed a steady week of work and unpacking boxes...

View of Town hall as we leave flat/shop via side door

After work we have walked up at Wattle Grove enjoying the views and getting the feeling of "home" up there.

John and Kate "von Trapp"

We drove over to Gordon (about 30 mins) to visit Ned Trewartha the boat builder/furniture maker who is working on the Huon Pine table for the shop. Its looking beautiful...Ned wanted us to see it before he begins oiling it.

Ned and Kim are such lovely people..very kind and welcoming...always ready with a cuppa and home cooked afternoon tea. Kim took Tom over to see their horse and Tom delighted in feeding it apples and carrots (just pulled from the garden).. It feels so good to be in this life we have now.

We went in to Hobart this morning to organise curtains/blinds for the flat..should have them in 4 weeks or so which will be good. we also decided to buy new bike helmets as we have opened most boxes and can't locate them...must have gone to storage!!
We had an amazing chance encounter in the middle of Elizabeth Mall with the Barr family ...we know from Pennant Hills (customers and Tom went to school with Owen) They are touring around for the holidays and will probably come past Cygnet tomorrow..really delightful!!

We plan to try to unpack and rearrange things a bit tomorrow..Tom and I will be making playdough for the fair...and the Cygnet Market is on again ..so should be a good day.
