Autumn in the air...

Sunday and Market day...
It's a dismal wet start to the morning...although not cold which is something.
Hannah and Ben had breakfast with us before packing up and heading off about 8am..

Tom did some reading with John , then we all went up for a morning drink at Red Velvet...Coffee, Soy Chai and Hot Chocolate...yummy. Steve came out of the kitchen for a quick hello and chat..
Back down the street outside our shop the Market was setting up.

Most stall holders are in Carmel Hall across  the road today due to the Art show in the hall.. The rain comes and goes during the morning...
We opened the shop and had a nice stream of customers...selling a few books throughout the morning.
Tom took turns at lego building then roaming the Market (I suspect he was topping up on cup cakes!!)
I had a snooze early afternoon and John eventually closed the doors and joined me..
We had a lovely afternoon of reading from Tom and John...(reading the exciting concluding chapters to an Emily Rodda Book...Cry of the Cat!!..a Teen Inc series) while I worked away at my knitting. (working on finishing a Hot Water Bottle cover I began when I first got here in September.)

We went for a Sunday drive up the Woodbridge Hill Rd, Croos Rd then back down Nicholls Rivulett Rd..
Simple pasta dinner with fresh veges bought from Alex's Golden Valley farm stall this morning...
Beautiful late afternoon sun on the hills as the day draws to a close...

Monday and although grey..its quite mild.

Comings and goings outside with a few tourists through the doors late morning..
Pretty quiet though..
But I did finish that Hot water Bottle cover.....

Bob Brown and Paul Thomas wandered past heading to the Lotus Eaters for lunch..
After school Tom and I got on with his latest idea...creating a story book on the computer..
Then it was time for scouts...Beautiful afternoon

I made a batch of Sausage Rolls for dinner and did a bit of pottering in my sewing space...

Lovely evening light with the feeling of Autum approaching.
Hannah rang in the evening to say they'd had a good day at Cradle Mountain...although Ben's canyoning trip was cancelled due to high water levels...Hannah still had her massage before they did some walks in the area... Good to hear they are ok.

Tuesday morning and steady rain in falling.

After making Tom's lunch I unloaded the fridge in preparation for the repair man Bruce...who should be coming today... (luckily the fridge has been functioning quite well while we waited for the new element to arrive)
Adam and Jesse the electricians are out the front doing more preparation work for the line work to be changed tomorrow by Auruora Energy...
There is an Official Opening of the new School library today at 11.30am...I didn't get over there though as we had some orders on the go..
An amazingly wintery day outside...grey, drizzley and bleak...but so cosy in the shop...

We have a local Irish identity who shuffles around town (giving the appearance of being fairly down and out). He is a man of few words..and when he does speak, is very softly spoken. I don't know what his life story is, but we see him every day wandering slowly about town ...just stopping here and there to look about. He sometimes comes in to the shop and looks at the books, occasionally buying one. He came in this morning while John and I got on with our work. He sat for some time reading, then went on his way again...no words were exchanged....nice to feel we are a bit of a haven for him on such a bleak day.
After work we took a drive into Hobart...John picked up some more Emily Rodda books at the second-hand bookshop for Tom to read.
We had a stroll up and down Elizabeth St then had dinner in North hobart at the Raincheck lounge...we always enjoy their tapas menu..

Wednesday and its a cool one again..

The electricians arrive early to replace the faulty ceiling fan in the shop bathroom. while they wait for Aurora Energy truck to arrive to change Mains connection..
I head off to Kitchen Class with Yr 3/4. Today we make pancakes and ther is lots of noise and excitement as the children take turns flipping them... My group has a couple of flops with the pancakes landing on the floor...but Chef Roy doesn't mind as they will go into his pig bucket.
The Aurora guys were just about finished when I got back to the shop.

We had a nice afternoon of orders and customers ..
After work and homework.. we went up on the hill at Wattle Grove to re-assess the Blackberry issues we have up there...daunting..but we will have to make a start to keep it in check..
So beautiful and peaceful up there..

Thursday and its a bit cool outside on my morning walk

Swimming carnival day...GO LOURDES!! (RED)...I'm wearing my newly made red flannel petticoat today in support..
Thomas heads to Huonville outdoor Pool...He went armed with a book in case it gets a bit boring!! (his father's son).
We had a pleasant morning...I rearranged the books in the window, did some dusting, a couple of loads of washing...we had a few orders and customers through...John ducked out to the Bank then the Post Office....
The sun broke through the clouds  around lunch time for a bit..
Nice to get messages from Hannah telling us where they are..
Kept busy with orders through the afternoon..Before long Thomas arrived home painted like an Indian Warrior and sporting two ribbons from his races today...a 1st and 3rd...Well done Tom!!

There was a big gathering at the church across the road at 3pm...a local's funeral no doubt...nice to feel connected to these events of the town.

The boys went up to the post and stopped in at IGA to pick up some boxes kept for us by delightful Saydeh..
We had a big load of wood delivered...so spent the afternoon stacking...

I went to a soughdough breadmaking workshop put on buy at a local woman (Kate) at her home. There were 8 of us in all. We prepared the dough from 7-8pm for the first rising and she gave us some starter to take home. It was terrific.

Friday and I returned to Kate's place to at 8am to taste test more breads for breakie then prepare for the second rising..and she demo'ed what to do when we got home with our dough... We enjoyed our lovely first homebaked bread for lunch ...

We had a pleasant morning... I went over the road to have a haircut at 10.30...
Hannah  messsaged to say they were heading back to Cygnet by the afternoon.
We all went up to Red Velvet lounge for a lovely dinner together.

After dinner Hannah , Ben and Tom went up to Wattle grove to camp overnight in their campervan..
Tom was very excited about it. They made a campfire and enjoyed a few marshmallows and some fun ..

John and I had a quiet night at home.

Saturday...and I had a short walk before heading home to stack some more firewood. Noticed some late ripening rasberries in our garden.

Hannah, Ben and Tom arrived back about 9ish...Mark the builder turned up to do some more work about the place.
After a leisurely morning..(while John made a Rose cream), we followed Hannah and Ben to the airport so they could drop off their van. Tom had a ride in with them!!

We then all headed to MONA to have lunch at the MoMa markets ...then spent a good four hours in the Museum...what an amazing place!  Stunning and curious...Tom had a great time. Lots of weird exhibits and strange art...alongside ancient treasure from Egypt etc... You really have to experience it to see what I mean.

We dropped Hannah and Ben to their accomodation in Hobart then made our way home...
Beautiful evening light across the paddocks..

Prince Caspian DVD night tonight!!...so we had a little rest before dinner...a good end to a very interesting day...
