John makes more Rose cream and I do some washing.. Tom potters with his lego.
We decide after breakie to head into Hobart to see the Huskies pulling a sled up Elizabeth St as part of the Amudson South Pole Expedition Centenary celebrations. Tim Bowden received the message today from the man taking Amudson's part (Tim's grandfather had been the Post Master general when Amudson sent the telegram to Norway to say he'd reached the South Pole first.. )
Tom really loved the huskies...especially Rex..one of the leading dogs.(with brown / blue eyes)
Met them again at Fuller's bookshop in the afternoon. We were there for the Launch of a book written by a local woman on the First Contact of Bruny D'Entrecasteaux (French explorer) with local Aboriginal Tribes of Recherche Bay. We have been selling the book in our shop.. Bob Brown launched the book as he had campaigned to have the area protected from logging in 2005 and many of his photos are in the book. An interesting afternoon..(even got my photo with Ben Reid in the "Out and About "section of The Mercury)
We said our goodbyes to Hannah and Ben as they were heading back to Sydney...then drove home and pottered until dinnertime...a nice quiet night.
Monday and its a Public Holiday here for Labour day...but we will open for business as the mainland customers will be putting in their orders..
I went for a lovely walk then got on with some washing..
I baked my second sourdough loaf and was delighted with the success!!
Ryan and Arlo came over for lunch and chat about our house plans.. We closed the shop doors for awhile.. Really lovely visit. Tom and Arlo get on very well together..they had a good play in Tom's room , the shop and then went climbing trees behind the Lotus Eaters.
We opened the shop again in the afternoon when they left and had a few more people through.
The boys finish stacking the woodpile...it looks great.
Made sushi for dinner...yummy... and bake an orange poppyseed cake for lunchbox treat.
Tuesday and its a warm one today ..24 degrees...
Beautiful sunrise.
More orders streaming in...which keeps us very busy all day..We end up with quite a load to go to the post after the Public holiday yesterday.
Tom happy to head back to school..He is going to a free after-school sport activity put on by by the school 3.15 - 4.15... They play ball games...AND provide afternoon tea!! Tom excited about that.
Its quite hazy today with lots of smoke around...Controlled fires I think..
Tom enjoys his afternoon of activity, then after shopping with me, he works on his "book" on the laptop...its coming along really well. He doesn't have computer lessons at school like he did in Sydney...but he is pretty good at figuring out how to do things..
John discovered our first Calendula flower in the garden.
After dinner the boys enjoy a reading session and I potter in my sewing nook... a pleasant evening finished off by a quiet read before bed.
Wednesday and its quite grey this morning...we all sleep in til 7.15.
I get on with lunch making and do some ironing after breakfast while the boys do Tom's daily reading..
A few orders are done before heading over to Tom's Kitchen class. Roy, Brian, Felicity, plus mums Kelly and Pauline and I work with the class to make Potato Vege soup, Caesar salad, Pasta and tomato/zuchinni sauce and Apple Crumble... very ambitious..but it all comes together and we all sit down and share the meal before hitting the washing up... very enjoyable morning .
Back at the shop John is experimenting with a new cream for very dry skin...
He makes a Copper Ointment as well.
Steady afternoon of customers and orders..
It's quite warm out today...with the sun coming and going.
I take a load up to the Post and meet Susan (of Cobweb gallery) who asks if I want to go to the Positive Ageing forum at the community Health centre at 4pm.. I decide I will go... It is quite interesting to hear the concerns of the local ageing population as they voiced their concerns to the Huon Council facilitator... Will be interesting to see what comes of the suggestions put forward.
Home again and Tom has done homework and is lego-ing while John potters in the shop.
I prepare vanilla poached pears for Friday night dinner here with Ryan,Minky, Ned and Kim then get on with dinner and evening rituals...finish with a bit of sewing and reading...I finish my book...Yet another account of the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostella...I really enjoyed this one.
Back to the shop bookshelves for a next book to read...
Thursday and they predict 26 degrees in Hobart today. Its a grey start but warm.
I spy a 'friend' munching breakfast at our back fence...The Wattles at Burton's Reserve are beginning to bloom
Email enquiries and a big therapist order take care of the morning while John makes a few batches of Sphagni's...a full morning's work.
I decide to splurge on a Lotus Eaters Ham Panini and Soy Chai for lunch. John is happy with the Woodfired bread from Red Velvet.. (I have to buy more four from Kate at the Market on Sunday so I can keep going with my breadmaking...)
Customers wander in to browse and buy during the afternoon..
Quite a grey day outside..I don't think we'll get to 26 degrees here.
We went over to school for a meet the teachers BBQ at 5pm..Anne (the principal) was cooking suasage when we arrived. Not a big roll-up...but Anne and Ian (whose daughter Gemma is in Tom's class) were there. They are newbies from Sydney too so we always find something to talk about.
John and I enjoyed having a walk about looking at the new mosaics done by students last year.. really lovely.
Sharlene works in the school office and tended to Tom's first 'Jack Jumper' bite yesterday...
Tom's teachers Andrea and Kim are very enthusiastic and John and I were impressed by their presentation and organisation..a relief to know Tom is in good hands this year.
Tom enjoyed larking about with the kids out in the playground.
Nice short walk home again after the meeting.
Friday and it rained and rained last night...lovely to be tucked up in bed and hear it.
We are having visitors tonight to share a meal at Ned's beautiful Huon table in the shop...
I made a Pistachio/Cardamon cake with Lime syrup this morning to go with the vanilla poached pairs served with Yoghurt and honey.
We get busy with orders coming through and John is filling the 210 tubes of Copper ointment...then sealing them...a full day.
Nice range of customers through the shop enjoying the space.
The dark clouds hover about most of the morning..it is quite warm in the low 20's.
It doesn't last very long though.
After school Tom and John take the post up and we prepare to close doors right on 4 today so we can prepare for dinner guests..
We enjoyed a lovely evening at the table in the shop..
Saturday morning and Tom is off to sailing. John and I enjoy a morning coffee at home reading the paper then get on with some chores. Before long its time to head down to the Sailing club to help pack away the boats.
Tom enjoyed his hot chips sitting out on the back steps ...his post sailing treat...
John pottered and read during the afternoon.
Tom is know to listen to reading in some weird and wonderful postures...it doesn't phase John in the slightest..(but amuses me!!)
Tom took off riding his scooter around town and climbing the tree near Lotus Eaters...
I got on with playing around with Jess' wedding dress..
While John had a snooze, Tom and I walked down to the Community Garden then back through the cow paddock. Such a beautiful afternoon with a pleasant breeze blowing and the sun shining.
Later in the afternoon, John and Tom did a bit of potting in the garden.
Spotted a lovely rainbow over the paddocks..
We had homemade pizzas and a quiet evening at home.
Tom was happy to snuggle into his dressing gown then into bed later as there is a chill in the air.
