We pick up a few books for the shop then drive to Tolman's Hill near Hobart to get boxes of the new Cygnet historical books written by David Coad.. These are very popular with locals and tourists alike.
We get a pretty good view of Mt Wellington..
We stop to take a look at Margate foreshore park...its a pretty spot..
We are warned by a nesting bird to keep our distance as we walk back to the car..
We have a lovely lunch at Peppermint Bay then head home for a quiet afternoon and evening.
Monday and its cool out..the ducks are happy after more rain last night...
Its a public holiday in most other states today so we have a quiet day ...but have prepared some big orders that came in late Friday. We have alot of book customers today...we sell 4 Matthew Evans books and numerous Cygnet history and other books too..
Tom goes to scouts and John and I drive up to wattle Grove to collect some Nettle for my talk on Wednesday...Beautiful up there.
I have pulled out of Book Club tonight as I really feel so tired..and i want to review my talk for Wednesday. Glad to get to bed...not feeling 100%.
Tuesday and its a grey morning..
Lovely down at Community garden. I dig over a garden bed and transplant some Calendula...
Liz, David and Di spent ages brush cutting the grass...its too wet for a mower..A great result.
We enjoy our cuppa together..
A few orders and books sold in the afternoon..
We go down to the Community garden to look at the Calendula I have transplanted...
Back home the garden is looking good.
We meet with other locals to discuss the Council plans to build a carpark behind the Town Hall and our property ..it is highly contentious as council do not appear to be adhering to Township plans or taking on board community comment...There are alot of very active opponents working on submissions to Council.
We have a cosy evening..I do a last run through of my presentation.
Wednesday...and it has been windy, windy all night...
I go up to Wattle Grove and have a bit of a walk...also picking some fresh nettle for my U3A talk today..(the plant we picked on Monday has wilted too much). Its beautiful up there...but very windy.
We get on with morning chores and enjoy the morning sun streaming into the flat..
I go to the Community Health Centre about 9.30am and met Janet who co-ordinates the U3A Garden interest group. There are about 12 attendees and my talk and PowerPoint presentation goes well. The first hour I talk about the idea of medicinal plants based on Steiner's work then show slides of some of the plant harvests we have done...looking at the parts of the plant we use. We break for a cuppa, then the 2nd hour I show how we prepare the plants to make the tinctures etc, the process of making creams and a short film clip of John potentising medicines. The group are receptive and I get some nice feedback after the talk...
I am presented with a lovely jar of Yves's honey as a thank you...yum!!
I'm quite exhausted when I get back to work..we have orders to work though but its not hectic luckily.
After work we inspect a house down the road , just to get a feel for different construction ideas...
Tom gets home from rock climbing and we finish off orders and he does homework.
Tom and I go down to the Community Garden to water the Calendula plants ..
Then its Devour burgers for dinner and early night for me..
Thursday and the wind is really whipping up...but it is so warm. Tom wears summer uniform today and I put on a skirt with no leggings!!
John harvests some Levisticum roots from our garden...processes them then and sets up equipment to do a decoction.
The day just gets wilder and windier..luckily our town is spared power outages...the towns down the Channel...have been without power most of the day. Our front doors keep flying open and whipping wind and dust through the shop.
In the afternoon I go across to Tom's class and we do paper mosaics of animals to celebrate St Francis of Assisi's Feast Day..its a lovely afternoon working with the children.
We go and visit another house at Upper Woodstock..just out of curiosity... Its a nice build and gives us a few more ideas..
Home again and we have a lovely dinner..then enjoy a quiet night..
Friday ..HAPPY BIRTHDAY LINDA......and the wind is calmer...but it is decidedly colder today. Back to the layers of clothes again.
A wattle tree has not weathered the wind and is upturned by the water's edge.
John and Tom go down after breakfast to take a look.
We have early local customers and a big order that takes care of the morning..
The day flows by with customers and jobs to be done.
John makes a Copper oint..
We have lots of customers through today and sell a number of books and products..
Hans and Esther...the couple who make goat's cheese up near our place..were in for some remedies for their goats.. Nice to meet them finally and introduce ourselves...
We sell more books in the afternoon...
Tonight we go to Cinema Cygnet. The film is "The Legend of 1900".
The trailers look interesting...and its in English so Tom won't have to read subtitles!!
We drop in to Lovett Gallery behind the Town Hall to the Opening of a new photography exhibition.. Stephen takes interesting photos using his mobile phone..
The movie proves to be a disappointment..brash, loud and unimaginative..we bail out at intermission when Thomas pleads tiredness. A quiet evening home is very welcome.
Saturday and its a sparkling morning..
I have a delightful walk down to Martin's Point.
We have breakie then head up on the hill to see if there is any significant wind damage to the trees.
We get to work clearing the concrete slabs down under the pines...thinking we may make a shed there at some point. Thomas has a great time climbing trees as we work away.. a terrific morning.
We head home for lunch a rest then get on with other chores.. John fills a Copper Oint while Tom and I make a Pear/Pistachio upsidedown cake..
I sew the new patches (from Jess) on Tom's blanket..
We make Spinach and Feta pinwheels and salad for dinner and settle down to watch "Five Pennies"..a Danny Kaye film we gave John for Father's Day...a lovely family film...
