Rosalie Woodruff latest Greens candidate vying for Milne's Senate spot
Southern Tasmanian councillor Dr Rosalie Woodruff is the latest to nominate for pre-selection for a Tasmanian Greens Senate position.
Earlier this month, Senator Milne cited family reasons for her decision to quit politics.
But Dr Woodruff could find herself in State Parliament as a consolation prize if she loses her bid for pre-selection.
The Huon Valley councillor also nominated for the southern seat of Franklin in last year's state election, polling second to former leader Nick McKim on the Greens ticket.
Mr McKim is also nominating for pre-selection for Ms Milne's seat.
Under Tasmania's count back electoral system, if Mr McKim's bid for the Senate is successful, Dr Woodruff would most likely take his state seat.
McKim not ruling out standing aside from state politics
Mr McKim equivocated when asked on Thursday whether he would see out a full term in State Parliament if he were unsuccessful in his bid for the Senate."Ultimately all political parties need renewal," he told reporters, the day after state Greens Leader Kim Booth stepped down.
"I honestly haven't considered anything beyond the process that's underway, and I don't think it'd be reasonable for me to pre-empt that process."
Mr McKim was a high-ranking minister in the previous Tasmanian Labor-Greens government, and led the party to a substantial electoral defeat in the 2014 Tasmanian election.
Contest for Milne's seat heating up
Dr Woodruff has joined the field nominating for the spot.Save the Tarkine spokesman Scott Jordan has also nominated, as has unsuccessful state Upper House Greens candidate Vanessa Bleyer.
Rosebery-based Matthey Ryan-Sykes has also thrown his hat into the ring.
Dr Woodruff told the ABC she would be happy to represent the Greens at either state or federal level.
She would not make any further comment about her candidacy until the secretive pre-selection battle is completed.
