Just after we returned from Galapagos...Cygnet had it's 2nd French festival "Le Weekend". The french explorers were the first Europeans to set foot here...and had it not been for the French Revolution...we could have been colonized by the French...hence the festival.
We set up a French book display out front of the shop...and I enjoy sitting knotting and chatting with passers by.
The town turns Blue , White and Red.
Peter George our local organiser(former ABC Foreign Correspondent) takes a call from ABC Hobart and gives a fabulous overview of the weekend's events.
After the call, I laugh and comment that he is certainly a pro when it comes to promoting the event... He laughs and says he could probably do it in his sleep!!
Jane and Ali come into town all French-ified
Helen lefts rip with the French national anthem at the opening ceremony.
Down at Community Garden a group of people have recreated a scale model of the original French explorers at Garden at Rescherche Bay.
Good turn out at a little concert by local group Rescherche Babes
Sunday is a chilly wet one..
Tom is still keen to take part in Tour de Cygnet...I decide to sit it out this year.
This is a shot of me taken by Events Tasmania photographer..
Goldie got lots of comments
At the closing ceremony... the Empress Josephine made a surprise visit...
(Not sure who she was...but spoke with a lovely French accent... That is Andrew Blaxland (Posie's husband escorting the Empress)
A lovely way to finish off the weekend.
