We continued with our set up in the shop then took a break to look about at the Expo. (A massage therapist who uses our Sphagnis and Massage Balm asked if we wanted to put some info about us on her table...so I dropped that over to her).
John met a lovely Dutch couple who have an organic farm at Barrington...they are growing an amazing array of beautiful plants that will be useful for us..it turns out they know a Dutch fellow that John worked with in Switzerland (small world)
They came to have a look at what we are doing...and later brought over Greg...who is a partner in 'Goulds' the iconic herbal/ homoeopath shop in Hobart. He was impressed with what we are doing and seemed a lovely man. He runs the Goulds' farm where they grow 20% of the crops for their tinctures etc...Interesting!!
Meanwhile the builders had begun getting the back fence up..its going to look terrific.
Back to work 'til quite late..we agreed to settle for bread and cheese for dinner...was delicious!!
Monday turned out to be a better weather day than expected...a lucky thing as the concreters turned up bright and early...Tom enjoyed watching them set up (and playing with their dog too!)
Tom had a good day at school...then home and dressed for scouts...hankering to go!!
I left at about 5.30ish to head into town to pick up Hannah at the airport. Amazing drive..heading up the valley I couldn't see Sleeping Beauty at all...completely shrouded in cloud. then same with Mount Wellington when I got in to Hobart. The rain began to fall and the views were quite grey...a bit of a change in temperature for Hannah.
I tried to get a good shot of Hannah coming off the plane...but she was distracted by the sniffer dog...always a somewhat unexpected thrill when you arrive at Hobart Airport!!
The boys met us at the shop door on arrival and we sat for a bit to take in the finished shop...
Dinner then set up Hannah's accomodation...the new sofa bed (got the thumbs up)
Tuesday and the Melbourne Cup didn't really get a look in this year...
We had no grand opening...just turned on the lights and opened the door..
We had a few interested locals drop in and made a few sales on our creams/sphagni's/medicines.
The orders kept coming so we worked our way through them.
Ryan arrived about 11am with Jasmine the photographer who is taking shots for the Sanctuary magazine article.. they stayed for a few hours just quietly photgraphing and chatting in the shop area. Jasmine will be back next week to photograph the flat and backyard...when they are finished (hopefully)
It was a good but tiring day for all.
We had intended to take a walk in the afternoon..but the rain was coming across so did a drive to Egg and Bacon Bay and Randalls Bay instead ..
Lovely Hannah planned to cook me an early Birthday dinner that night...so I took the opportunity to have an early evening snooze..
What a delightful meal we had...such a yummy combination...and Hannah tidied all away afterwards too...even setting up the dishwasher to give it a first go!! Just Wonderful.
Wednesday began with breaky in bed as a birthday treat!! and John,Tom and Hannah brought in their breaky to join me...how lovely...
There were parcels and cards to open...then up and ready for the day.
Hannah and I spent some of the morning sitting at the shop table, labeling and packing the Aurum/Rose/Lavender cream John had made last week...what a joyous task in such a beautiful setting and with lovely company..I am so lucky.
The orders began to roll in so Hannah gave us a hand getting them out.
We had more customers...and even sold some books!! making John quite sad...hard to part with them.
We are telling our visitors that we want the shop to be a Community space where people can come and browse and enjoy the lovely environs...I usually say "no pressure to buy'...and John often adds.."I'd actually prefer if you didn't buy the books!!" But jokes aside, John seems to be thoroughly enjoying engaging in conversations with those that show real interest in special books...
Our plants went in today and the beginning of landscaping began out the back...Looks lovely.
We left for Hobart pretty much after Tom got home from school and we'd done the final Post drop off for the day..
John had a plan to buy a drain grate from Reece plumbing to use as an external door "mat"...we located the very thing!!
Did a quick shop at Myer to pick up snazzy bottles for new bathroom shower shelf the had dinner at Raincheck Lounge.
We had some time before dropping Hannah off so did a walk along Constitution Dock...then to the airport and goodbyes 'til next visit.. (Tom had a weep as we drove off...he loves his Narns).
Thursday an a steady day again...with more new faces through the door... It's great to hear the "WOW" as they step through the airlock into the shop. Ryan called by for an update meeting with David the builder to discuss house plans and budgets. It was more of a social call with us...which is delightful.
Birthday flowers arrived from Jess...left at our front door in a bucket...lovely.
A birthday pressie from Linda, Mark and Connor also arrived...a beautiful jug/vase..
Tim the sign writer came back to put the decals on the internal doors...they look great..
and to decide where to mount the 'dead cat'...I left that task to John David and Tim.
Tom had a lovely time playing with Tim's son Finn and his mates.
A lovely mild evening, we sat out the back chatting with David as he finished for the day..
Friday was another busy day with orders and alot more visitors to the shop. Word is spreading!!!
We had a lovely time greeting and chatting to people explaining what we are doing here..Everyone is so delighted with the shop...
On the building update...we now have a side metal fence which will create a lovely warm spot for our citrus trees... Tim the signwriter was back to to put up our trading hours and paint shop number..(the 'dead cat' will have to wait until after our Pharmacy inspection as we want to keep it a low profile 'til we get the OK)
We went in to Hobart to get to NAB bank before closing...and also managed to organise my birthday pressie....a kayak...Yay!! (we also bought one for Tom as an early Christmas pressie so we will be able to go out together...what fun. John will have to go into town next week to pick them up with his car.
Had an interesting meal at Ethos in Elizabeth St. then a short walk and drive home..
Saturday was a magnificant day...blue skies and 23 degrees...tidy up and washing done I headed in to Hobart to Salamanca Markets and to the big hardware to get a few things
The boys went down to the Sailing Club to watch the lessons going on there..but alas no wind ..so they headed to visit a friend Anne living at Egg and Bacon Bay (about 15 minutes drive) to see her garden. Anne grows alot of herbs etc and is interested in our medicines. She runs Lovetts Art Gallery behind the Town Hall next to us. (She has been making her own medicines and tinctures for 25 years and learnt from a elderly lady called Gali who lived in Cygnet..Anne inherited alot of Gali's things and has given us a book and some pillules that were Gali's...really special)
I understand the boys also had morning tea at the Red Velvet...but that's a secret!!
David our lovely builder spent the day working on our amazing fence...looks wonderful.
Tom and I had a lovely bike ride to the sailing club and beyond ( and a paddle too) I told you it was warm!!
Back home to potter a bit and chat with Dave. It is such a delight to have interesting and lovely men working on our home...at the end of the day, they like to sit and enjoy looking at the fruits of their labour and we have had many an interesting chat. John and I agree we will really miss them when all is finally done here...still...there is the house!!
John , Tom and I took a walk to search out some Conium Maculatum for a cream that Melbourne Therapy Centre has requested... found a good patch and also enjoyed the balmy evening stroll.
Home to have a last look in the shop for the day then dinner and Star Wars V...........
