Word is spreading

Word is slowly filtering through the community that we are open. Its a lovely processs, getting to know the locals and visitors alike...

Sunday began with a harvest of Conium Maculatum. John is teaching Thomas the process and he is very keen to learn. (He even has his own harvesting knife)

The day began to heat up (reaching an amazing 31 degrees!! phew).
Cygnet Market was on today so Thomas was hovering around the hall. He loves to wander in and chat to the stallholders...and usually buys something "special".
He took me over to introduce me to a stallholder named Talon who is the cousin of Rachel the journalist from Sanctuary Magazine...very friendly woman.
We headed over to Kingston (near Hobart) to the Steiner School Tarremah as it was their annual fair.
Absolutely vibrant and delightful event...lots to see.
We picked up a box of books, some bottles, old garden tools and plants....had a delicious lunch and watermelon to keep cool. Met up with Ryan and Arlo...Minke (Ryan's wife was performing with friends)..also met up with Kate and Peter Tenni..customers from Woodbridge (and incidently, friends of Ryan too...small world down here)

Minke playing Clarinet

On the way home we stoped at Snug and harvested some Digitalis...also picked up a few rocks for
our back garden..

David our lovely builder was working on our back fence when we got home...such a hot job.. We sat and had a cuppa and chat for a bit.

Talon dropped over  from the Market to tell us that there is a good 'beach' not far away called Mickey's Beach. Tom and I decided to investigate as it was still pretty hot.
We ended up at Randall's Bay as Mickey's seemed a bit off the beaten track (we'll explore at a later date) The water was icy..not surprising as it comes down the Huon River from the snow peaks..but Tom braved the water anyway!!

We came home to enjoy the back garden area..such a balmy evening

Monday began with orders and customers dropping in...really nice pace of work.
Mid-morning Jasmin the photographer arrived to taking shots of the flat and garden. She stayed most of the day..pottering...we left her to it ...so it will be interesting to see the photos..
David was on site working on a few more tasks...one of which was a clothesline set up in the carport...
Ryan, Minke and Arlo came for a visit and a walk through..Ryan is on his way to India (via Melbourne) this afternoon..Nice to have visitors enjoying the space.

Tom headed to scouts with clothes for water activites... they ended up going down to the Sailing Club to see if the kids could swim...in preparation for canoeing practise next week.... it was a pretty chilly afternoon..but the kids didn't seem to mind.

Tuesday began with a sprinkling of rain...but turned into a lovely sunny afternoon.
A nice balance of orders and customers again today. One of the loveliest moments was when a group of five people wandered in and after a time, were all seated around the shop with a book in their hand having a quiet read while John and I got on with our orders...

Snowy, the rocking horse now has his mane...although John says he looks like a girl!!

I enjoyed an afternoon of craft, making clay faces with googly eyes and lolly teeth...part of grade 1/2's health education program about teeth brushing..lots of fun. Then stayed behind to help Sharon set up Spooky picture display (craft that Hannah helped with last week). Sharon apologised for bossing me around...I said I was really happy to be bossed and help her out...she has such energy and enthusiam and is really dedicated to enhancing the children's educational experience.

Tom headed straight home and had his head in his library book...Star Wars...Return of the Jedi!!

Took the mail to the post office and stopped in at Near and Far shop to chat with Brett and Karen...such friendly welcoming people...and they have a delightful shop too.
We enjoyed a sit in the sun front of shop and Tom did some homework there...then Tom went for a scooter over at the school.. I went over and took photos of some of my favourite roses growing on the pathway up to the church and school.

We went to a Huon Council Town forum Meeting at Burton's Reserve in the evening.
Scouts put on a sausage sizzle and we mingled with some of the locals we knew.
Lotus Eater's Cafe window display
Tom amd I ducked out after about half an hour and John stayed on...quite interesting to hear about plans for Medical centre etc.

Lovely evening light as we walked home...the reflection on our back window just beautiful

Wednesday morning was a pea souper...the fog cleared to a stunning day..

A quieter day re orders today but customers trickled in and we had plenty to keep us busy.
Our curtains and blinds went up today...quite a tranformation..(will take some getting used to after all that clear glass!!)
Duette top down/ bottom up blinds...nifty!!

The boys headed in to Hobart straight after school to pick up the kayaks!!!
While they were away I had a visit from the Nealers (Penno customers) who are holidaying in Tassie...really delightful to see them.

Tom had a lovely play outside with his lego as it was a really balmy evening..

Jasmin the photographer came back at dusk to take external photos with all the internal lights on...said she is really happy with what she got. She will drop in a CD of photos for us next week.

Thursday was a lovely day...lots of facinating people in the shop. Sold quite a few books and medicines and had some great conversations...this life is joyous.
Incredibly, a bloke called Andrew came in and introduced himself  as a local Book Distributer...Fantastic!! We were wondering how to organise buying new books...now I'll never get John off that website!!!

David the builder was back doing a bit more out the back..beginning to build a gate and tidying up the garage area...

We went in to Hobart after closing the shop...to pick up Tom's wetsuit.

A happy chappy

It was an amazing afternoon of sweeping rain then sun..and lots of beautiful rainbows..

We stopped at Blackman's Bay on the way home and had dinner at The Beach Cafe

We thought about taking a walk to the headland...but the weather turned again so headed home..

Blackman's Bay

I am heading to Sydney tomorrow for the weekend...but will leave my camera with the boys so hopefully they capture some of their adventures for next week's blog...
