I have a slow start...not feeling well today..
The boys do some more potting..
We all drive up to Wattle Grove..but I stay in the car out of the wind as my sore throat is not improving.. The boys enjoy a walk down to the house site..
The view across to the snow-capped mountains is spectacular.
After lunch John and I have a sleep while Tom reads and plays lego..
We have a quiet afternoon reading...
Our pear tree is beginning to show real signs of new life...lovely
Early showers and we set up for a viewing of the next instalment of 'Life on Earth' with Sir David..
Tom is enthralled.
I head to bed pretty early..
Monday..and it's amazing we are still here...The wind last night was WILD..such huge gusts through the night..
Tom and I have a slower start...both of us feeling a little under the weather.
John is up and about bright and early.
Its a grey day and the rain comes and goes.
John has the fires roaring in the shop...so we have a cosy space to work in today.
It feels quieter in town ...no school activity...as holidays have begun.
The boys get to work putting up more storage shelves for books while I handle the orders that come in...its not frantic...which is good.
Tom enjoys a nice holiday lunch.
I have a Dentist appointment at 2pm in Huonville..finishing off crown work...
It's not too traumatic..
The day remains cold and damp..so its nice to get home..
And the day ends on a happy note for me...
The new Concertina I ordered from The Button Box in USA has arrived (to replace my old unplayable one)...It's beautiful and a delight to play
Quiet night for all..(with a little music on the side!!)
Tuesday and its a delightful sunny morning after the foggy start..
Lovely window display at Lotus eaters
His Belladonna plants are coming along well..
The potted garden looks impressive...just hope things grow
There are not many of us today..but we plant seeds, do some weeding, plant out seedlings, feed the worms in the worm farm and move chooks..Thomas really enjoys pottering about and helping out.
By 3-ish he is exhausted...so he has a snooze for about half an hour.
Thomas has been busy making his very first cake...unassisted. Its from his recipe book from school. Its a strawberry glazed cake...quite an undertaking...but he does really well and is rightly proud of the result.
Its a terrific night again. We sit with Andrew and Posie (Graham Evans)...lovely people. They live just on the outskirts of town. I know Posie by her work...she wrote McLeod's Daughters..and has written some historical fiction novels.. We enjoyed delightful conversation..sharing our stories of how we came to be here.
Back home we all are feeling tired so its an early night..
Wednesday and the boys head off at 7.30 to get into Hobart. The car is booked in for a service.
Then they are going to a storage shed where 2nd hand books are being sorted.. John has been invited to have a private viewing so he can purchase what he'd like.before they go to auction. A fantastic opportunity...but a long day.
Tom has our spare mobile phone so he keeps me informed of throughout the day.
They have called in to Toyworld while waiting for the car..and surprise surprise...a lego box jumped out at them!!.. So while John fossicks through box after box of books..Thomas does some lego and goes for walks to the park next door and phones me up for a chat...
I have a busy day of orders and customers...the time just flies by..as one order is finished another arrives...so its a good day. Not too overwhelming!!
After taking the post up..in the wild windy afternoon...the rain starts to fall..
I drive in to Huonville to meet the boys at the Medical Centre. We are having a second attempt removal of Tom's warts... He is very brave..
Home through the wind and rain and after dinner we snuggle down for the night.
I have a lovely catch up phone call with Sandra...while John sorts through his book haul.
Thursday.. (Happy 85th Birthday Ma!!)..and even though the sun shines..the wind is icy.
I'm still feeling less than 100% so its good to take things slowly today.
I have a quiet walk down to Burton's Reserve and pick up lots of kindling.. then make my way back quickly as the wind is cold.
I get the shop fires going.
After morning chores we begin the day with orders coming in. Thomas is happy with lego..and does a bit of a tidy up of his room (on request of Mum!!)
John gets his morning coffee then sends Tom and I up to RV for a morning tea cuppa .. We have a lovely sit by the fire enjoying our Hot chocolate and Soy Chai tea while leafing through a lego catalogue...and discussing the merits of the various models..lovely.
Then back to work and lego building.
The weather closes in and rain comes over..but we are cosy inside.
Thomas completes his amazing lego helicopter ..
Meanwhile John and I attend to orders and customers.
After work Tom and I go down to the community garden and pick some salad greens for our dinner..delicious.
John continues book sorting and pricing after dinner. Tom is soon in bed as he has a nasty cold..poor darling.
I spend a few hours working on my presentation for U3A in early October..
Then its off to bed..
Friday is grey and cool. John is already up making batches of Sphagni so I get the fires going, bring in bins etc... not really feeling up to my walk again today. This cold I have makes me so lethargic..But its Friday!!
Tom gets up and begins a sort out in his room...he is such a lovely little fellow..
We have a good day. Lots of customers through the shop today.
Not so many orders...but enough to keep us busy..
We drive into town after work to do a bit of shopping. We were going to have dinner at Rockwall restaurant where Ben (ex RV) is working...but we would have to wait about for 45 mins before they open for dinner...and its cold and grey.. We buy Chicken and Leek pies from Daci Daci Bakery...and drive home to eat them instead..a good decision as we are all tired.
A cosy night at home and early to bed.
Saturday and the sun shines..
We have a slow morning..beginning with breakie in bed thanks to John... a real treat (pigs included)
I do a few chores before settling down to sewing.
The boys go into Huonville Hardware to get shelving and pavers...for new book shelves for shop kitchen area.
Later in the afternoon they go to visit Marcus's place (a teacher at St James who is working with Permaculture on his land) John enjoys the visit very much.
We rest a bit through the day.. (I'm still not feeling great)
Tonight we go to the Red Velvet Centenary Dinner..(1912- 2012)
We were offered a place as they had last minute cancellations...so we decided to go..
It was a great night...wonderful food (5 courses) and atmosphere with Huon Valley Ramblers playing Bluegrass/Folk music..
