we set out for Hobart to go to the book barn ...arriving at 8.45am for the final sort of the deceased estate books...boxes and boxes of them. Hannah drops by about lunchtime and Tom and I go into Hobart with her to have some lunch and do a couple of things...then its back to the barn. (John barely stops for breath)..
I drive home and unload a car full of books while Hannah takes Tom to a park then back to her place at uni. John continues to fossick (I know what it's like to be married to a gold prospector!!)
I pick Tom up on my way back through Hobart and we go back to the barn. We are there until 7pm
packing up the second load of books...John finds it hard to stop...but we reach capacity..
Tom has been so patient...what an astounding boy. A kind woman working in the barn shows Tomas the old machine room...the building built in 1816 was first a brewery then an apple store..
We all sleep well..
Monday is a cool start.
Thomas has his last Scout night for the term at Charlotte Cove..
They have a campfire and play games.
Tom comes home with a glow stick. He has great fun spinning it around in the dark.
The boys bring in loads of firewood for the shop...and it is nice and cosy with the fires going all day
The day is a sparkling one..
Finn comes over to play for the afternoon while Melanie is at a Staff meeting.. The boys have a lovely time.
Board AGM tonight. Three new members join the Board and Dave O'Neill our lovely Chairman resigns after 8 years on the Board..I am elected Deputy Chair.
Wednesday flies by..orders, books to price etc..
We put up a notice about a combined fundraiser for local schools...Cygnet on a Plate.
Local chefs will prepare the meal and local politicians ...including Lara Giddings the Premier...will serve the meal.
We have donated a book for the Auction and will attend the dinner...should be fun.
After work we visit our architect Paul's new home to inspect the polished concrete floor...an economical way to do the floor...providing good thermal mass to absorb heat from the northern sunshine. We make a few adjustments to our plan and will wait to see the estimated building cost!!
Thursday is a chill and at times wet day
...a shame as Tom's class is supposed to be out doors alot today..Yr 4 from Sacred Heart Geeveston are visiting today.
We get a bit done at garden before the rain comes in ...so we break for early cuppa.. Then we move the chooks...
After work Tom and I do some baking for a school morning tea tomorrow and prepare for visitors coming tomorrow. Ryan (our shop architect) has entered the building into a Architect design competition. The judging panel of 5 will be visiting from 8 to 8.30 tomorrow to inspect....so it's tidy-up time!! (and Lucy and Paul are coming for the weekend)
We watch a David Attenborough DVD the Gourmet Farmer before bed... (Lucy phones to say she and Paul have arrived in Hobart and are on their way to dinner at Rockwall with Hannah)
Friday is grey and cool...
news report first snow on the mountain today...
The judging panel arrives and has a quick tour ...taking photos as they go...(the place hasn't looked this slick in a long time!!)
Then its on with the day...lots of orders to do..
Hannah phones in the morning to give me an update and I encourage them to go up Mount Wellington to see the snow....they have a fabulous time (Paul's first sight of snow)
At 12 I dash over to the school hall to the Lovely Ladies...mother's day presentation. Tom is proudly sitting on the techi's table with 2 mates. They have put together an iPad presentation of photos of all the class members with their mums..really lovely..
There are a few songs sung by younger grades and then there is to be morning tea ...I duck out at this stage as there is much to be done at work..
The afternoon passes very quickly.. I go out to begin preparing the meal for dinner..
Before long..the visitors arrive...
So lovely to see them..We chat , prepare the rest of the meal , enjoy dinner then Lucy ,Paul and Hannah join me for a walk around town...pretty dark out and the rain catches us before we get back...
All head to bed pretty early.
Saturday is another grey one...
The visitors cook up their breakfast
I make Zucchini Soup for our lunch...then the girls head up to the hill to meet the boys!!
Thank heavens for Paul and his muscles!! John has scored two windows for the price of one.
They are unloaded and we protect them from the cattle and weather..
We have an extensive walk of the property..delightful...then its back home for lunch.
After lunch ..all but John travel to Huonville to the Jet Boat ride. I am treated to a cuppa while the young-ens go on the Jet Boat. Great fun by all accounts
We go over to Peppermint Bay for dinner...and are back home pretty early....so we all watch 'Waking Ned Devine' to finish the night..
