We have lots of orders to do today. It keeps us running until lunchtime..
John gets Thomas to assist with the orders...and he is a great help.
We have a lot of customers through the shop today and sell a number of books.
By afternoon it is drizzly and quite cold.
There is a bit of activity next door as preparations begin for the Folk Festival..
We enjoy a cosy night at home.
Tuesday and again it is grey and cool..
The boys go up on the hill to meet with Paul (architect) and Rodney (earthworks man) to discuss the driveway construction. We still have to go through the process of Council approval before we can proceed...slow going.
It is a quiet morning in town...everyone must be sleeping in on this grey day.
The boys return and after Tom has had a ride down to Burton's reserve they get a Rose Cream going..
The day passes and the sun makes an appearance but it doesn't warm up much.
Tom goes for a ride over to the school after lunch to watch the demolition progress. I go over and have a look myself. Amazing to see the machines at work..
We take John for a walk after dinner, so he can see what's been going on..
The wind is so chilly. I'm glad to go for a run to warm up and then get home.
Lovely quiet night in..
Wednesday is looking a bit more promising..with predicted 19 degrees today. Here's hoping!!
John fills the Rose cream and I seal tubes, label and box while Thomas reads to us..
The bunting has gone up in the street this morning..in readiness for the Festival. Lots of comings and goings between the halls and trucks and organisers do the rounds setting up.
The boys get Hypericum filtering...it is a magnificent deep red hue.
We see a lot of customers through the shop today and sell some of our special 'Music' books that we have collected over the year.
Tom and I go up to Cowens Store and pick up a few school uniform bits and pieces..just to be organised. Then we walk down to Burton's to have a look about. The campers are already arriving and setting up. I had a chat with Peter (Tom's scout leader) who is overseeing the campsite...a big job. The weather looks like it will be on the improve over the next few days...Terrific for the festival crowds.
There are truckloads of sound gear being unpacked into the Town Hall this afternoon.
After work I walk the Golf Course circuit...just beautiful out in the sunshine...with bare legs!!
Tom is keen to go over to look at the demolition site at school after dinner..so we do a bit of a wander around town (with bow and arrow of course!!)
A lovely quiet night at home and early to bed...
Thursday...and what a morning! Even though a cool 9 degrees to start, it promises to be fabulous.
I manage to bet around my usual morning circuit despite the campers appearing in Burton's Reserve.
Tom is still tired when he gets up today...so listens to Ranger on the floor.
Tom and I go over and pick up our Festival wristbands..getting exciting now.
We head down to garden..
There is a great roll-up today. And it's all hands to help put up the marquee for the folk festival.
The Laura and I get to work on preparing signs for a Breakfast Pancakes being made on Sunday to fundraiser for the Community Garden.
We then sample the quinoa and buckwheat pancakes with homemade yoghurt, fresh berries and organic maple syrup as Kate, Sally and Jo do a trial run...yummy!!
Thomas has a great time as a mate from school ..Riley.. comes to garden with his grandma. The boys help with the marquee then race about playing..
Back at the shop John has been busy with orders and some customers too,
We get a few more orders done before I head out to a quick 1 hour choir rehearsal for the Welcome Ceremony tomorrow night. We practise two songs ..one Bulgarian the other Albanian... Tricky to get your head around the words..but fun.
After work and dinner we take a walk around town to see what is happening.
Really exciting to see the town transforming into a Festival venue.
Friday and Summer's here.(at least for a day) A predicted 30 degrees today.
All is quiet at Burton's "camping ground" when I do my run.
By 8 am there is action in the street with campers looking for breakie and Festival volunteers in their orange t-shirts going about setting up.
The boys harvest the Chamomile to begin preparing a compost for a cultum preparation.
John and Tom take a look around town before Tom goes off to work at The larder..He is doing a day shift today with Phoebe (one of the other worker's daughter) as they plan to walk around town handing out flyers...But it turns out that Tom is not needed until closing time as the flyers are not done yet.
We have a few customers through the morning, buying books and medicines...fairly peaceful compared to the busy goings-on outside.
After lunch I go up to another choir practise..the Tasmanian Heritage 'fiddlers' are there too so the sound is fantastic. Neil Cameron is co-ordinating the event and wants high energy...shouldn't be too hard once we get going... Opening ceremony is at 6pm.
John and Tom prepare to go down to start their shift at Burton's Reserve tonight from 4pm to 12am.
They look after camping ground security...
I'll keep the shop open until 5pm then hopefully join in the procession at 5.20pm..
The procession is a lot of fun...then I take part in the Opening Ceremony choir backing Mara Trio. Terrific
I make my way down to Burton's Reserve to see John and Thomas joins me as he has just finished at the Larder. John is grateful for the coffee I take him...will be a long night.
Back to town I go and drop in to the Irish ceilidh , the various venues to see Salvation Jane, Margaret Roadnight, Mzaza, As the crow flys and Danny Spooner. Fantastic atmosphere around town on such a wonderful balmy evening.
I go down to Burton's at 10pm to bring a reluctant Tom home...very sad to have to leave the other kids playing in the dark...He does admit later to being glad to be at home .
I intend to wait up for John...but end up going to sleep (once I have inserted earplugs and put a pillow over my head!!... The head lining act Afenginn are playing in the Town Hall next door)
Saturday and I'm awake at 6 as usual...so quietly I make my way out to do my usual circuit. The walkway to Burton's is blocked off so I do a slightly different route..All is quiet in the 'camping ground'.
As I head back I notice something interesting in the corner park....A Teddy Bears' picnic!! Delightful!!
I go home and have a cuppa then walk around town to see what is happening.. Food stalls are arriving and stalls setting up.
Back at the shop I give the front windows a good clean as the boys are still asleep.
Eventually they surface..and we have a wander together.
After breakie and some reading , Tom heads off to work for Bec and Sam until about 2pm.
I go over to work on the workshops door and sell CD's for a couple of hours.
John mans the shop.
Fantastic atmosphere around town.
We take turns having a look about...such a wonderful atmosphere.
The afternoon passes with many customers and lots of busking outside.
We eventually close up.
Tom goes back to work to help pack up for the day.
We all go for a walk up to the park and we drop into the venue at St Marks and enjoy some wonderful a capella singing from Salvation Jane.
We make our way home slowly and enjoy some reading time listening to the performers in the Town Hall..then it's off to bed.
Sunday and yet another beautiful sunny day...Fantastic!!
After my walk and cleaning up the front of the shop...we slowly prepare to go up to the park to get our Community Garden quinoa and buckwheat pancakes with fruit and homemade yoghurt for breakie.
We wander back home chatting to friends along the way..
It's is a full day again...
John and I take a look at the instrument makers..
I do my 2 hours volunteer work at the workshop area..good fun.
John is kept busy in the shop and Tom is off at work again.
We have a surprise visit from a long-term customer who works in the Western Desert with indigenous women. John has a book about these weavers so we get Thisbe to sign it for us...delightful.
We close up at about 5 ish and take a bit of a break before heading over to Carmel hall for the last night Cabaret...always a great mix of performers..
Another fabulous festival!!
