New Year Week

Monday is a grey cool day.

We have a fairly busy one with orders to post and lots of customers..
It's a lovely holiday feel with Thomas about..
I get some blogging done and John begins the next Ranger book...much to the delight of Thomas...he is hooked on this series..(I like them too!!)
We get started on Thomas' jigsaw puzzle from his friend Jahan...after work and dinner...we all work on the puzzle for an hour or so...slow going ..but fun. (this puzzle has no edges and 5 extra pieces!!)

Then to bed...

Tuesday..New Years Eve...is grey and cool.
We have some Ranger to begin the day...then after some recorder playing we have another burst at the puzzle before work.
The boys make some Sphagnis while I attend to orders..

We have a number of 'tourists' having a browse today..
The afternoon passes with the occasional customer...and John and I sneak out to do 'just a bit more' of the puzzle set up on the dining table. Tom minds the shop and gives us an owl hoot if a customer comes in . (He is set up with the iPad...watching a Lord of the Rings animated movie)
We have a delicious dinner to celebrate the end of the year...then John and I finish off the puzzle
while Tom pottered in his room.
We had a later reading session of 'Ranger' than usual...but it's New Year's Eve!!
Then after a quiet read we are all in bed by 10pm.

HAPPY NEW YEAR
I begin the New Year the best way possible...with a huge cup of tea!!
We have a slow start with 'Ranger' reading...then after breakie (and John's morning coffee) the boys get to work setting on the Hypericum Oil..

I get some chores done while they are busy.
We head into Hobart, stopping to pick up Hannah. The boys enjoy touring her new place (especially the dark areas in the underground garage area.
We go into town and enjoy lunch at 'Taste'...everyone finding the food of their choice... then walk over to Constitution Dock to inspect the Sydney to Hobart yachts..very exciting...(a bit disappointed that Wild Oats XI has already gone).
I find 'Magic Miles' the Tassie yacht that I was backing...came in towards the end of the fleet..but it made it. John's chosen yacht 'Wedgetail' lost it's mast so had to retire just off the Tasman Peninsula..

The boys take a look through the newly built Mawson's Hut replica.

Back to Taste for dessert, then Hannah and Tom head off to begin their special 'sleepover' adventures..

John and I wander back to City Hall to take a look at the Antique Fair. Interesting things to be seen.

We have a cuppa before heading home.
We decide to go up on the hill as the evening is so mild.
John chips some thistle he spots near the bottom dam. I walk up to the top paddock and he meets me up there. We do a bit of a wander on a thistle patrol...and find a few. We are pretty pleased that they seem to be under control this year...with only a few hot spots that we know we have to monitor..

We have a lovely quiet evening at home..(missing our little fellow though)
Hannah sends a photo of her diner date at Rockwall..

Thursday is wild and windy..
The tide is high this morning...I nearly get blown over when I stop to take a photo..

The sun shines...but it is so unpleasant in the wind I decide not to go to garden today.
John gives his Hypericum oil a stir...becoming lovely and red now.

We have quite a number of customers in the shop buying books and creams etc.
The day becomes more and more overcast..but we manage to reach 20 degrees... (meanwhile Jess messages me to say she has reached home..... in Moree it is 39!)
Tom and Hannah have had a fun morning looking at lego in Myer and then going to the Hobart Aquatic Centre..

We have a fairly constant flow of customers through the day...and some orders to do too. A nice atmosphere.
Hannah and Tom arrive back...and Tom discovers what his animal friends (and John) have been up to!!

Hannah has dinner with us before heading back to Hobart.
I set up for the 'Knitwits'  as John calls them (sadly I'll miss the next instalment of 'Ranger' tonight)...and it turns out all to no avail.... as no one shows up!! Oh well...after knitting on my own an hour or so I decide that something must have prevented Helen coming...
Spectacular dark clouds over the church as I poke my head out to look up and down the street for any takers!!

I enjoy a quiet read out the back before bed.

Friday is a sparkling sunny morning...lovely and still.

We enjoy some Ranger before work..
I give the windows a thorough clean this morning...while John takes phone orders..
Tom is happily designing lego to compliment his new Hobbit tree bought yesterday.

I begin packing away our Christmas stock in readiness for next week's folk festival ..We have been collecting music and folklore books through the year that will go in the window next week.
We have customers come through the day...but it is generally pretty quiet.
After lunch I decide to begin dismantling the Christmas tree..Tom gives a hand between lego projects.
The corner looks really bare once the tree goes....then John has the brilliant idea of moving the Telescope to the corner.. So lovely to have the room clear again..
I go for drinks with the girls at the Top Pub. We have lots of laughs..a really enjoyable hour or so..
Jasmine gives us an invitation to her 40th birthday 70's party tomorrow night at the B&B.
Home to some quiet reading before bed.

Saturday and the wind has picked up again and it is decidedly chilly. I get up for my usual run..but the rain has come in and it does not look appealing to go out in it...so I enjoy a big cuppa instead..wonderful.
We get organised and after breakie head to Hobart to do some shopping at January sales..
I'm really happy with my new pack, rain jacket, mug to replace the one Tom accidentally broke...and a fabulous new camera as my current one has never been quite right since I dropped it about 6 months ago...
The boys pick up some books and a couple of lego boards...and we even think to get Tom some new black boots for school.
It is an exhausting morning...battling the wind..so we are glad to reach home and have a snooze.
We have a quiet afternoon then prepare to go to Jasmine's party.

We have to bring photos of us in the 70's..fun.

It is a terrific night...and Jasmine has a ball. Lovely to see her so transformed and happy after losing Bruce so suddenly last November.

Even John admits he enjoys the atmosphere and chatting with friends. (I don't get him on the dance floor though!) Tom is mesmerised by the disco... He has great fun playing outside with Montz and his young son Yoshi (Montz comes dressed in his traditional 1870's Japanese clothes..including decorative swords...Tom is very impressed)
We stay until about 9.30 , then decide it's time to call it a night..

Sunday is Market day.
Tom and I go over to help Kate unload her car for her market stall at about 8.
We go home and listen to John read a couple of chapters of Ranger...
Then we roam the market ...It is a lovely atmosphere with lots of people out and about.

John spots a treble recorder at a stall across the road and we decide to buy it at the bargain price.
Tom takes it up immediately...playing a few familiar tunes...terrific. It has such a lovely tone.

A bit more challenging to play as you really have to stretch your fingers.
Tom enjoys playing in his messy "holiday" room..

After lunch we go up on the hill to do Thistle patrol...and find a few. Tom shoots his arrows to help us locate them!!.

The rain comes in just as we head back to the car.
We settle in for a lovely cosy afternoon reading and knitting as the rain pelts down.

The market has packed up quickly today as there is a Jazz Concert in the hall this afternoon...it gets underway at 3.30pm and seems to go on for hours....not all that brilliant really... (we hear it all as it blasts our way)
We have early dinner and watch a DVD on Mawson that John picked up in town..it is quite interesting... Then it's more Ranger before bed..
