We have a week with dark clouds , heavy rain and strong winds. We are not as badly affected as some areas that lose power for a few days or experience flooding..
By Friday, we have extreme conditions that bring snow up high and close the Huon Highway at Vince's Saddle.
Trees come down...and there is a big one down on the road at Petchy's Bay...on the coast road down the hill from our property.
Mount Wellington gets a big dump of snow and some of the higher suburbs of Hobart also feel the chill..
We are becoming a real bookshop...hosting 2 book launches over the next few months.
Local , David Coad who now lives in Paris, has finished his 4th Port Cygnet book and will be here to launch the book on Saturday 16th August..
We will have a local launch here on Saturday Sept 13th..
The fierce weather seems to have an effect on the local seagulls...and they come into town to shelter..
Bleak skies and heavy rain see us abandon community garden this week.
Instead I host morning tea in the shop...a real cheer up for everyone who manages to come..
That evening...I reset the table for 'In Stitches' group... a small group of 4 but we enjoy the cosy atmosphere and fire while we knit and sew and chat. (I have brought the group forward a week as I will be in Sydney next week)
Friday brings more rain and there is snow on the mountains..
The Scout group holds it's annual Red Faces night...with many and varied skits and performances. It is a lovely family night and we are nice and warm in the hall while the wind and rain rages outside.
The scout leader Peter...fondly known as Smokey...does a great shrek impersonation..
Saturday morning is grey but the sun comes out and we manage to get quite a bit done on the 'cubby site'..despite the mud.
Tom enjoys his Sunday morning minecraft time...rugged up..
Then back up on the hill...the wind chill factor is a bit much today...but we press on..
New friend, 'Skunky' monkey that John found at market this morning..is a firm favourite already..
Tom sets up a cosy lunch spot and gets the Kelly kettle on the boil...
Tom works hard...along with John and me...we really push ourselves and get alot done...very rewarding..
Then we break for a walk down to the bottom paddock to check out the dam..
Fantastic views of snowy Sleeping Beauty up the valley
These little red-breasted birds flit about and bring startling colour...
We all get to bed early feeling the tiredness that a long day of labour in the wind brings..another wonderful week over..
