Weekend in the Adelaide Hills with Lioba

All went like clockwork on Friday..arrived in Sydney and was met at the train station by Libby..We dashed up to Mary Potter to see Ma for a brief but lovely visit.. Then it was off to Inala at West Pennant Hills to meet and pick up Lioba.. very exciting.
Thanks to dearest Libby we had a lovely drive to the airport, chatting about this and that along the way. After the drop off...Lioba and I had a bite to eat before going to our plane..we enjoyed a relaxed sit and occasional chat..on the plane.
My attempt at a selfie...

Then we are in Adelaide...greeted by lovely Linda and Connor...
We enjoy the journey up to the 'hills' catching up on news and learning a bit more about Lioba's life.
Then we arrive at the magnificent house at Dawesley...Every room is like a museum with collections and curiosities..it is mind-boggling..Lioba and I can't believe what we are seeing..everywhere we turn there is something more amazing to see.
We thoroughly enjoy Linda's delicious oxtail soup and more great conversation .
We have a lovely time trying on hats..

..before collapsing into our very comfortable beds..
I'm up early Saturday as I hear Mark is home after his night shift at the Copper mine at Kanmantoo. We have a delightful chat over a cuppa...
The morning begins when the others surface..we have breakfast and head out to look about the farm. Linda and I have a tour of the sheds, chooks and gardens while Connor takes Lioba on a tour of the property via bike.. Then I get a ride too..great fun.

We continue the tour..looking at the stables , the amazing shearing shed, tractors shed then walk the property.

We stop in at the shed where the log splitter is kept and I have a go after Connor's demo.. Fabulous!!..I want one of those.

On the way back up to the house Linda, Lioba and Connor haul branches that have been blown off the bonfire pile.

We tour the gardens around the house..just magic. Linda has worked so hard ...they look wonderful.
Such a beautiful array of plants..

We enjoy a delicious lunch then head out to drive south to Port Elliot in search of whales..
What a wonderful drive..though beautiful country. Lioba cannot believe how big the properties are. She says there would be many villages in the same space in Switzerland.
We stop off in Strathalbyn to look at a favourite shop of Linda's.

We end up at Goolwa, drive onto Hindmarsh Island and see the modern 'Gold Coast' housing here..then stop at Basham's Beach where we site 7 whales. Fantastic!! We can't believe our luck. The whales don't perform but we do see the occasional fin slapping the water and catch a tail clearly visible too.

Ice creams at Post Elliot then a drive back along a different route gives Lioba a different perspective of country.. We stop at Mt Barker lookout on dusk and marvel at the view...getting chilly up there.
Home again after a 5 hour tour Thanks to our wonderful tour guide Linda.
Conner and Lioba have a quiet read.

Then a scrumptious birthday dinner for Lioba of Lamb cutlets/chops off the farm..broccoli from the garden and local potato and beetroot served with home made chutney YUM. Then its surprise birthday cake (Malakoff Cake made by Linda) and gifts for Lioba. Her surprise and delight is gorgeous to see.

We sleep very well..
Sunday and I'm up again to see Mark..and we have a lovely chat.
Lowly the others surface and after breakfast Linda and I look at her ebay store and other delights while Connor takes Lioba outside to ride the quadbike...

We join them...and Lioba is obviously in her element! I have a quick turn too...lots of fun.
Connor brings out the tractor and before long I am  having a great time driving about..such
fun.Thanks Connor!!

After quite a while we make our way back to the house where Linda has been cooking up gourmet prawn, spinach and feta pizza's Yummo...with salad from the garden.

We eat our fill then pack up and head out for a scenic drive through the hills to the airport . Such beautiful country.
A drive though town..a quick stop for Gelato..then it's off to the airport..
Sad goodbyes...we have had the most wonderful visit. Loads of great memories to take with us.
Thanks Linda, Connor and Mark.
